The main argument was always, why have ships when you could transform into one instead?
Accoridng to many an opinion of fans past perhaps could be in gen 1 their objective was to haul energon to replenish cybertron. A big form would have facillitated this but remember each autobot and decepticon cannot haul their own spare parts and perhaps something can be protected in transit that is of value. and it was logical that many autobots and deceptions stay in one place when exploring. logically it is harder to lose one thing especially if you have stuff inside like a bag.
okay someone would say why not they combine into one ship.again we are talking about hauling
things that are needed while being optimised for combat. can't be both that easily.this is another limtaion of not beinga ble to choose your form at will.
To save enery ,repairs, loss, and other equipmnet thatyou cannot fix or is not advisable to haul in combat,The most logical answer. A ship.
Basic in complexity and easy to repair(compared to transformers) and just in case the inevitable happened is expendable ,like a protective covering
rather than wasting your own metal and power, you have this.
These are just some reasons for why gen1 had ships. feel free to argue why it doe snot make sense.

Apologies if this may sound a little self promoting but just to
to let you know that the powers that be made it so and
I will be contributing to some articles/blogs in this site.
After all, someone has to speak for the "older" fanbase who would like to share the "Essence" of what made the old animated series go beyond a mere cartoon.
(Cliff Blezinski said it best, "..It is in our blood..")
It wasn't all about the toys,(oh the toys!!!..)
The series took itself "seriously" but felt "modified" for "kiddies".
Today many who grew up with TF Gen-1 look back and remember it in a different light.Better animated like "the TF movie",perhaps in a more "mature" light.
Others wished it could be done for "real".
(I was the one of those who wanted it "REAL")
It was never just about good versus evil.Scratch the surface and you see potential reserved for something that smacks rich of depth beyond that of just an action sci-fi movie.
A potential "trilogy" with a "moralistic message" that strikes a chord where you can feel for each transformer on both sides almost as a living being despite their alien origin.
The similarities between us and them disturbingly alike to show that our problems are "universal". Transformers in dark light but with a few upbeat characters to break the depression.
Almost anti-war like,"The Big Red One" or "Stalingrad" but on a scale as bigger than "The Longest Day" ;with a touch of "Starwars ,A New Hope".
(as some expected from Bay's creation)
Like all who voted "Peter Cullen" in The Don Murphy site
I expected a Timeless Classic void of the constraints of having to be "modern" in order to appeal.
(although IDW changed a few things in their comics. The characters are still indeniably as they are but in more depth.
therein lies respect for the subject in their work)
For me the live action movie left much to be desired in
character ,plot, depth, development and plot/character believability. No sense of being lost in the adventure.
(how many would have loved to see cybertron. perhaps witness some customs/practices)
One would expect the subject become more
developed and not just "This years FX fest" and
Military "homage" for the masses.
Perhaps once the dust has settled and those in question
have had their "FILL", maybe someone would take up the mantle
and do this "subject" with the due care ,respect, authenticity and love that would make Cecil B. DeMille or Peter Jackson proud.
The Transformers' full potential is still unreached.
Maybe not that original a concept but it had more depth in character than most of its predecessors
(did someone in the back scream "Challenge of the Gobots" or "Mighty Machine Men"?),
Till then like many fans I will stand vigil or until die hard fan with deep pockets persuades a director who is worthy to do it justice.

I'm a huge Transformers fan. I am contacting you in regards to the fairly popular Attacktix Battle Figure Game, made by Hasbro. I understand that the game received mixed reviews by TF fans, but I loved the game and I know I'm not alone. As you may know, the entire Attacktix series is currently on "hiatus", with no relief in sight.
I, along with several other Transformers/Attacktix fans, created a YouTube video to help promote a petition that we created in order to show Hasbro that there is still a loyal fan base for this game.
Either way, the video has Optimus Prime, so check it out, maybe you'll even want to try Attacktix. Video after the jump.

Here's what it says (spoilers... kinda)
"The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force. The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron's dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark. Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way, the Autobots with reinforcements of their own, may have more to deal with then meets the eye."

Ok so it's not exactly a Hasbro TF but I want one anyway. Maybe Hasbro will follow the lead and introduce a line of actual transforming Autobots & Decepticons. As much as I love the Ultimate Bumblebee, it's not quite the same as the V-Bot, is it.

It is more logical that they traveled through space in a ship than in they're protoforms. As for ships in... read more
